Because We Matter LV hosted the first summit dedicated to addressing crucial tobacco-related topics impacting the African American community.
The inaugural event centers on tackling tobacco use within the African American community, uniting experts and advocates to delve into critical topics like the link between tobacco and cannabis, the impact of tobacco on mental health, the role of melanin in nicotine addiction, and the effects of marketing menthol and tobacco flavoring to Black Americans. The summit’s goal is to heighten awareness, stimulate discussions, and advocate for inclusive health strategies to pave the way for a tobacco-free future.
No Menthol May is an expansion of No Menthol Sunday, an annual observance led by the Center for Black & Equity to engage faith leaders and their communities in a discussion about how to improve health and reduce health disparities for African American people, which includes preventing smoking initiation and encouraging smoking and vaping cessation, specifically menthol-flavored products.
